Sheet Metal Forming & Bending Services

From Flat Sheet to Parts That Fit Your Assembly.

Custom brackets, chassis, panels and enclosures manufactured to your drawings—with attention to bend accuracy, mounting interfaces and finished-part dimensions.

GPT Precision provides sheet metal forming and bending services for prototypes and batch production. Our 100 t and 160 t press brakes support bend lengths up to 3,000 mm, subject to material, thickness, geometry and tooling requirements.

Samples and inspection reports are submitted for customer approval before batch production begins.

Built Around the Finished Part

More Than the Correct Bend Angle

A formed part must fit its assembly, not simply meet an individual bend angle.

Mounting holes need to align, flanges must clear adjacent components, and the finished geometry must support the intended function.

We review material, thickness, bend geometry, tooling access and critical dimensions together to establish a suitable forming approach.

Assembly Fit

Mounting interfaces, hole positions, flange orientations and clearances.

Manufacturing Feasibility

Material condition, bend sequence, tool access and forming requirements.

Dimensional Control

Bend angles, flange heights, critical datums and finished-part dimensions.

Поверхность & Secondary Operations

Tooling marks, visible surfaces, welding, hardware and finishing requirements.

Where a material substitution or design adjustment is recommended, we discuss the proposed change and obtain your approval before proceeding.

Materials for Sheet Metal Forming

Material Selection Affects the Finished Part

Material grade and condition influence bendability, springback, achievable bend radius and surface appearance.

We work with aluminum alloys, stainless steels, carbon steels, copper and brass. The specified material condition is reviewed together with the finished-part geometry.

Материал Available Grades Main Review Points
Алюминий 3003, 5052 Temper, thickness, bend radius and finish
Алюминий 6061 Temper, bend direction and cracking risk
Алюминий 7075 Material condition, bendability and geometry
Stainless steel 301 Temper, springback and dimensional control

Design Considerations for Formed Parts

Design for Bending, Assembly and Inspection

Good sheet metal design considers how the part will be formed, assembled and measured—not only its flat pattern.

The following references support initial design review. Here, t represents nominal sheet thickness.

Feature Initial Design Reference Review Priority
Inside bend radius R ≥ 1t for suitable materials Сплав, temper, thickness and bend direction
Flange length ≥ 4t as a starting reference Die opening, radius and tooling access
Hole-to-bend clearance Initially assess ≥ 2t from hole edge to bend tangent Hole size, bend geometry and distortion
Bend relief width ≥ 1t as a starting reference Relief depth, location and adjacent features

These references are not universal minimum requirements. Final dimensions depend on material condition, forming geometry and the selected tooling.

Critical Dimensions & Assembly Interfaces

Identify the datums, mounting holes, locating features, flange heights and clearances that control assembly fit.

Clearly distinguish functionally critical dimensions from features where manufacturing alternatives may be acceptable.

Bend Radius & Springback

Material recovery after bending can affect the final angle and geometry.

We account for springback during forming setup and verify sample dimensions against the agreed drawing requirements. Adjustments are made where needed before samples are submitted for approval.

Flat Patterns & Bend Sequence

Provide the finished-part 3D model and dimensioned drawing. An existing flat pattern can also be included with its revision identified.

Bend allowances and developed dimensions are coordinated with the selected forming process. Short flanges, closely spaced bends and enclosed features are reviewed for tool access and bending sequence.

Secondary Operations & Surface Protection

Welding, inserted hardware, machining and coating can influence final dimensions and appearance.

Identify visible faces, acceptable tooling marks, finishing requirements and surfaces that need protection during manufacturing.

From Drawing Review to Approved Production

A Defined Process Before Batch Manufacturing

Our forming and bending workflow includes drawing review, sample production, inspection and customer approval before batch production.

Drawing & Engineering Review

We review material specifications, thickness, bend geometry, tooling requirements and critical dimensions.

Manufacturing questions, inspection datums and acceptance criteria are clarified before production planning is finalized.

Sample Production & Inspection

Samples are produced and inspected against the agreed drawings.

Relevant measurements include bend angles, flange heights, hole positions and overall formed dimensions.

Where corrections are required, the forming setup is adjusted and the affected features are rechecked.

Customer Sample Approval

Samples and an inspection report are submitted for customer review.

Required corrections are addressed and verified before approval.

Batch production begins only after customer approval.

Batch Production & Quality Control

Production proceeds using the approved sample, drawing revision and agreed inspection requirements as references.

Dimensional and quality checks are performed according to the project inspection plan to maintain consistency throughout production.

What Affects Forming & Bending Cost?

Pricing Based on the Complete Part Requirements

Forming cost depends on more than bend count. Выбор материала, part size, tooling access, order quantity and secondary operations all influence the manufacturing approach.

Cost Factor What We Evaluate
Материал & thickness Класс, condition, stock requirements and forming force
Part size & geometry Handling, tooling access and setup complexity
Bend count & sequence Number of operations and part repositioning
Tooling requirements Standard tooling suitability and additional setup needs
Order quantity Sampling, setup and production volume
Secondary operations Welding, hardware, machining and finishing
Inspection Critical tolerances, verification and documentation

Include your initial order quantity and expected repeat demand where available.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

What is your maximum bending capacity?

Our press brake equipment includes 100 t and 160 t machines, with bend lengths up to 3,000 mm. Maximum formed-part dimensions are 1,500 × 800 × 500 mm.

The applicable working range depends on material, thickness, geometry and tooling. Maximum values may not be achievable simultaneously.

What bending tolerances can you achieve?

Our capabilities include bend angle tolerances of ±0.5°, flange height tolerances of ±0.2 mm and formed hole-position tolerances of ±0.2 mm relative to agreed datums.

Overall formed dimensions can be controlled to ±0.5 mm, subject to project requirements and manufacturing conditions. Specific tolerances are reviewed against the drawing.

Can you bend 6061 and 7075 Алюминий?

Да. Both alloys are included in our material range.

We review temper, thickness, bend radius and geometry before confirming the forming approach. Certain high-strength conditions may require larger radii or an alternative manufacturing method.

Can you produce parts with specified bend radii?

Да. Available radius options include R2, R3 and R5 mm. Other radii are evaluated based on material thickness, geometry and tooling.

Identify functionally critical radii on your drawing.

What is the minimum flange length?

A flange length of approximately four times the sheet thickness is a useful starting reference.

The actual minimum depends on die opening, bend radius, material and nearby geometry. Shorter flanges require individual review.

Do I need to provide a flat pattern?

№. A finished-part 3D model and dimensioned drawing are sufficient for initial review.

If you have a flat pattern, include it with the revision information. Developed dimensions and bend allowances are coordinated with the agreed forming method.

Will I receive samples and an inspection report?

Да. We provide samples and an inspection report for customer review before batch production.

Production begins after your approval, using the approved sample, drawing revision and agreed inspection requirements as production references.

Can welding, hardware installation and finishing be included?

Да. Welding, hardware installation and finishing can be reviewed as part of the complete manufacturing scope.

Include these requirements in your inquiry so the applicable operations and acceptance criteria can be confirmed during quotation.
